Stained Glass Care

You just got a handmade stained glass art piece! Here’s how to take care of it to keep it looking its best:

  • Wash your hands - stained glass contains lead; make sure you wash your hands after handling pieces.
  • Use microfiber - microfiber is preferred for cleaning & wiping stained glass pieces as it won’t leave fuzzy debris like other materials will.
  • To keep it shiny - use a microfiber cloth or a Q-tip to apply carnauba wax to the solder lines, then gently buff to evenly coat and remove excess wax. Use a fresh microfiber cloth to wipe any smudges from the glass.
  • Be careful with - household cleaners; they might strip the coatings which will result in discoloration or dull solder lines. Pledge is okay, but make sure you wax after cleaning. You shouldn’t need to clean or wax your piece too often.
  • Be gentle - although stained glass pieces are sturdy due to the support of the solder, it’s still glass and can break if not handled properly. This is especially true of glass plants that have different structural components than a suncatcher.
